IEIIT (Institute of Electronics, Computer and Telecommunication Engineering) is a research structure of CNR, the National Research Council of Italy, established on October 12th, 2001.

The IEIIT main site is located inside the campus of Politecnico di Torino.

IEIIT carries out advanced scientific and technological researches in the area of Information Engineering covering fields of telecommunications, applied electromagnetics, computer and systems engineering, electronics, control and systems. The activities are carried out in cooperation with several national and international research institutions and academia.

IEIIT has six territorial sites:

IEIIT carries out advanced scientific and technological research in the area of Information Engineering covering fields of telecommunications, computer and systems engineering, applied electromagnetics, electronics, control, robotics and bioengineering. The activities of IEIIT are based on experience and know-how developed by its staff over more than 40 years of scientific activity in the ICT domain. Many of them are carried out in cooperation with national and international research institutions and universities, within the framework of scientific programs and projects supported by national and international agencies, public and private organizations and medium and large enterprises. Collaborations are particularly tight and effective with a significant number of professors and researchers of the universities where the IEIIT sites are located.

IEIIT results concern soft products (simulation models, design methods, synthesis techniques) and hard products (new architectures of devices, sensors and systems) that are experimentally characterized within the IEIIT laboratories. Such outcomes are useful for the industrial and social applications, telecommunications, terrestrial and space scientific observations. The engineering approach adopted by IEIIT is particularly beneficial for the technological transfer of research results, leading to cooperation with enterprises.

IEIIT researchers are also involved in the teaching of advanced courses and seminars to undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students as well as to professionals.

IEIIT Torino Headquarter

IEIIT Bologna Site

The IEIIT Bologna unit is located at the School of Engineering of the University of Bologna.

The research activities are focused on ICT and exploit the presence of a well-equipped laboratory. Historically, the unit has always established fruitful collaborations with professors and researchers of the Universities of Emilia Romagna and with small and medium-sized companies in the region.

The main research and application areas are Wireless technologies for Infomobility Services, Communication technologies for ITS, Multimedia Communications, Mobile Communication toward 4G, Digital Video over Wireless, FPGA and DSP in Communications, Short-Range Communications and Sensor Networks, Heterogeneous Wireless Networks, Digital Transmission Theory, Indoor localization techniques, Remote access to laboratory equipment and E/m-Learning, electronic circuits for communications, power electronic converts and piezoelectric devices.

Further Issues are Radio Resource Management, Multiple Antenna Systems, Cross Layer Design, Digital Signal Processing, Modulation and Coding, Digital Transmission Theory and Multiple Access Control.

IEIIT Genova Site

The IEIIT Genova unit is within the CNR Research Park.

The researchers of IEIIT Genova unit carry out advanced scientific and technological researches in the area of Information Engineering covering fields of Cognitive Systems and Robotics, Computer Security, Machine Learning, Parallel and Distributed Computing. A multidisciplinary approach allows to obtain both theoretical and applicative results, through the coordination and integration of the different skills available.

The activities of IEIIT are based on experience and know-how developed by its staff over more than 40 years of scientific activity in the ICT domain. Many of them are carried out in cooperation with national and international research institutions and universities, within the framework of scientific programs and projects supported by national and international agencies, public and private organizations and medium and large enterprises.

Moreover, the IEIIT Genova unit manages the information network of CNR in Liguria.

IEIIT Milano Site

The IEIIT unit of Milano is located at Dipartimento di Elettronica, Informazione e Bioingegneria (DEIB) inside the campus of Politecnico di Milano. IEIIT researchers carry out their activities in tight cooperation with the DEIB Department.

Advanced studies and research activities are delivered in the areas of communication systems, applied electromagnetics, control system engineering and automation.

Researchers of the IEIIT unit of Milano collaborate with DEIB Department in the framework of scientific programmes and projects supported by national and international academic and research institutions, and by small to large enterprises. They are also involved in teaching courses and seminars to undergraduate/graduate students and tutoring activities for student theses.

The experimental research on radio and radar systems is carried out at the Spino d'Adda Station, located at about 30 km from Milano, equipped with radio stations for propagation and communication studies, a meteorological radar and radiometers.

Established in 2006, Wisytech (Wireless Systems Technology) is a spin-off of Politecnico di Milano and CNR with the mission to transfer into innovative products the know-how of the research labs of Politecnico di Milano and CNR-IEIIT on next generation wireless systems, and the expertise of Alfamation S.p.A., a leading company on system integration and manufacturing testing and validation.

IEIIT Padova Site

The IEIIT Padova unit was established in 2003 and is located in the building of the Department of Information Engineering (DEI) of the University of Padova.

The research activities are carried out in cooperation with the DEI scientists and, in particular, with the research groups of Instrumentation and Measurements, Automatic Control and Telecommunications.

IEIIT Pisa Site

The IEIIT Pisa unit is located inside the Dipartimento di Ingegneria dell'Informazione of the University of Pisa.

IEIIT Pisa unit carries out advanced scientific and technological researches in the area of electronics and telecommunications in cooperation with the University Department by using well equipped electronic labs.

The activities are based on experience and know-how developed by its staff over more than 40 years of scientific activity in the ICT domain. Many of them are carried out in cooperation with national and international research institutions within the framework of scientific programs and projects supported by national and international agencies, public and private organizations and medium and large enterprises.

The researchers are also deeply involved in teaching advanced courses to undergraduate/graduate students on subjects falling in the Institute areas of expertise.
