People - Annamaria Vernone

Annamaria Vernone received the degree in Information Science from the University of Turin, Italy, in 1991. From 1992 to 1996 she worked as data administrator for methodological support, standard analysis and functional analysis at the strategies and control section of SAI Insurance Company and, from 1996, continued this activity at EDISU (Ente per il Diritto allo Studio Universitario) Piemonte. In 2001 she took part in the Project "PFBC-Progetto Finalizzato Beni Culturali" at Istituto di Ricerca sull'Ingegneria delle Telecomunicazioni e dell'Informazione (IRITI) about the Web Portal for researchers, public administration, companies and citizens on Cultural Heritage with the aim of making available on-line data, enhance multimedia products, patents, new technologies and results of research in National area. The project was the starting point for a larger project called EACH (European Agency for Cultural Heritage). In 2004 she started a research activity in the European Project MAGELLAN "Multimedia Application Gateway for Enterprise Level LANs" (EUREKA/ITEA), for video watermarking techniques. From 2007 she continued the research activities on watermarking techniques in multimedia environment at the Department of Computer Science, University of Turin, within a Programmatic Agreement between Istituto di Elettronica e di Ingegneria dell'Informazione e delle Telecomunicazioni (IEIIT) and the Department of Computer Science. From 2009 she started a research in collaboration between IEIIT and University of Turin on watermarking for biomedical digital image, focused on reversible watermarking techniques, and in particular on fragile reversible watermarking. The reversible data embedding, viewed as an information carrier, is particularly used in medical field where a very slight change in pixel values may not be desirable and the access to the original raw data is always required. Currently she works at the University of Turin and continues the activities on watermarking. She works with Prof. G.Pescarmona at the Department of Oncology, University of Turin, on the following research themes:
- analysis of all known human proteins on the basis of their amino acid relative frequencies, as a model of a new epigenetic mechanism of protein expression, using partitional and gerarchical cluster methods.
- computer modeling and simulation in medicine and biochemistry (system dynamics); the models are used to simulate the dependence of biological systems behavior from local conditions like environment, tissue, blood supply
- big data analysis with R parallel cluster algorithms on NVIDIA CUDA GPU (Graphics Processing Units).
