IEIIT Genova - History

The Genova branch springs was founded in 1970 as the "Istituto per i Circuiti Elettronici (ICE)" for carring out research in the field of circuit theory and applications, with particular attention on computer assisted electromagnetic measurements and modeling of biological systems.

The growing complexity of modeling optimization begot an increase in skills on Information Communication Technology and Computer Science.

In 1980 ICE became one of the Computing Service Centers of CNR participating to the experimental heterogeneous Computer Communication Networks forerunner of INTERNET in Italy.

During years ICE was active in the following fields: cognitive systems modeling and robotics, modeling optimization, machine learning, complex system characterization, nonlinear time series analysis, high performance computing, development and analysis of algorithms, computer and network security, bioengineering and computational biology.
