IEIIT Pisa - History

The Pisa site of the Istituto di Elettronica e di Ingegneria dell'Informazione e delle Telecomunicazioni (I.E.I.I.T.) was founded in 1962, first as "V section of Research Center for Electronics and Telecommunications" and then (from 1969 to 2001) as "Research Center for Methods and Devices for Radiocommunications (CSMDR)". The mean number of researchers and university members has been 3 and 12, respectively, and three of the ten researchers have become Associate Professors while five of them have become Full Professors. The directors of the research centre were Proff. Tiberio (62-69), Mancianti (69-97) and B. Pellegrini (1997-02). The research and educational activity have concerned two main fields: Electronics (technologies, devices and integrated circuits) and Telecommunications (synchronization algorithms, networks and radars). The most important scientific results have been reported in details hereafter and they are globally emphasized by the indicators of the CNR Reports that put the research center (CSMDR) in the first positions of the Engineering sector.

Researchers and university members have covered many important scientific roles both in national and international context: coordinators of national and european projects, members of steering committees, promoters and/or chairmen of conferences, editors and referees of journals, presidents of GE and GTTI, etc.
