IEIIT History

IEIIT è un Istituto del Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, afferente al Dipartimento di Ingegneria, ICT e Tecnologie per l’Energia e i Trasporti DIITET, centro di riferimento per la ricerca scientifica e tecnologica avanzata nell'Ingegneria dell'Informazione, che investe settori quali l'elettronica, l'elettromagnetismo, le telecomunicazioni, il controllo dei sistemi e l'intelligenza artificiale, l'informatica e la bioingegneria.
Nasce nel 2001 e subito diventa punto di riferimento all’interno del Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche per le ricerche nell’ingegneria dell’informazione, grazie alla sua stessa struttura nativa come incontro delle competenze complementari, fondamentali per eccellere in questo settore nel panorama nazionale, europeo e internazionale.
Nel corso della sua quasi ventennale storia, IEIIT è stato guidato da tre Direttori. Oltre Paolo Ravazzani, attualmente in carica dal 2018, Riccardo Tascone dal 2009 al 2018 e Marco Ajmone Marsan dal 2002 al 2009.

 

Riccardo Tascone
(April 2009 - November 2018)

He was born in Genoa, Italy in 1955. In 1980 he received the Laurea degree (summa cum laude) in electronic engineering at the Politecnico di Torino, Italy. From 1980 to 1982 he worked for CSELT (Centro Studi e Laboratori Telecomunicazioni, Torino), then he joined CESPA (Centro Studi Propagazione ed Antenne, Torino) of CNR.  He has been Head of the Applied Electromagnetics Section of IRITI (Istituto di Ricerca sull'Ingegneria delle Telecomunicazioni e dell'Informazione, Torino) of CNR and from April 2009 till November 2018 Director of IEIIT. 
He has held various teaching positions for I, II and III level courses at Politecnico di Torino in the Electromagnetic area and has been coordinator of several research projects funded by Industries, Research Institutions and Agencies. He is co-author of more than 250 publications and of 4 European patents concerning microwave devices and systems.  He is on the review board of several international journals in the electromagnetic area. Since December 2018 he is IEIIT Associate and collaborates in the research area of Applied Electromagnetics.

 

Marco Ajmone Marsan
(September 2002 - March 2009)

He is a full professor at the Electronics and Telecommunications Department of the Politecnico di Torino in Italy, and a part-time research professor at the IMDEA Networks Institute in Leganes, Spain. He obtained degrees in EE from the Politecnico di Torino and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Since 1974 he has been at the Politecnico di Torino. He has been doing research in the fields of digital transmission, distributed systems and networking. He is a Fellow of the IEEE, and a member of the Academia Europaea and of the Academy of Sciences of Torino. He is qualified as “ISI Highly Cited  researcher” in computer science. He received a honorary degree in Telecommunication Networks from the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. He was named “Commendatore” of the “Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana” by the President of Italy in January 2006. He was the Vice-Rector for Research, Innovation and Technology Transfer at the Politecnico di Torino and the Director of IEIIT from 2002 to 2009. He was the Italian delegate in the ICT and IDEAS committees of FP7.
